Fr. Richard Rocha, Pastor

Fr. Rocha was raised in the St. Joseph, MO area, the third of five children. He always loved sports, and grew up playing football.  He has coached football at both the high school and college level. After 14 years of teaching and coaching, he discerned that God was calling him to the priesthood. He attended Mundelein Seminary in Chicago, and was ordained a priest on June 1, 2002. He has had several parish assignments, including Visitation Parish and St. Elizabeth Parish as an Associate Pastor, St. Patrick Parish (St. Joseph) and St. Joseph Parish as an Administrator, and St. Rose of Lima Parish and St. Patrick Parish (Forest City) as Pastor. In 2005, he served as Secretary to the Bishop and Master of Ceremonies for Bishop Robert Finn. In 2009, he was appointed the Vocation Director/Director of Seminarians for the diocese. In 2009 he was appointed pastor of Saint John Francis Regis Parish. He was appointed by Bishop James Johnston as President of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School in 2016. He has also been involved with the Knights of Columbus,  has served as Missouri District Friar, Missouri State Chaplain, and is currently the Faithful Friar for the Father Bernard J. Donnelly Assembly #566. He is the Catholic Chaplain for the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas City Police Department. He has served as Pastor of St. Matthew Apostle since June of 2017.

Joe McNeal joins us from Coronation of Our Lady Catholic Church after being ordained deacon in June 2011. His ordination came after bravely weathering both open heart surgery and a pulmonary infection. He will be guiding our catechumens through RCIA.

Jess grew up in a small town outside of Wichita, KS. She is the fourth oldest of nine children. She graduated from Benedictine College in May 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Theology. Jess joined the staff of St. Matthew’s in July 2013.

Eddie and his family have been members of St. Matthew’s Parish since 1988. Eddie joined our parish staff in March 1989 as our Director of Buildings and Grounds.
