Parish Pastoral Council
The Parish Pastoral Council, a representative body of the parish, provides vision and leadership to make the parish mission statement become a lived reality. Members of the council are servant leaders for our faith community – listening, praying and collaborating to make God’s Kingdom more visible in our midst. Parish Council meets on the third Thursday of every month, except August and December, at 7:00pm. Meetings are open to all parishioners.
Our Sunday celebration is supported by a variety of ministries –sacristans, hospitality ministers, lectors, commentators, cantors, instrumentalists, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, and altar servers. To join any of these ministries, please contact the parish office.
Art and Environment
This committee works to enhance our worship space through the creative use of fabric, flowers, plants and other materials. Meetings are held as needed.
There are many ways to be involved in music ministry at St. Matthew’s. The Cantor Ministry utilizes individual vocalists to lead congregational singing at our weekend liturgies. Other musicians provide special music at liturgies throughout the year. To become involved in Music Ministry, please contact the parish office.
This group meets every Monday morning at 9:00am to make rosaries for hospitals, nursing homes, the missions and anyone who needs a rosary. For more information please contact the parish office.
Registered parishioners may enroll their children in the religious education program. Registration for classes takes place in early August; the religious education program begins in September and ends in May. Children in grades K-8 attend on Wednesday nights from 7 pm to 8 pm. Tuition fees help cover the cost of books and materials.
If you have children who are interested in joining our youth group, call the parish office or attend our regular meetings on Sunday nights during the school year form 7 pm to 8:30 pm.
Vacation Bible School
VBS is a one week event, scheduled for mid-summer. VBS is open to parish and neighborhood children pre-K thru grade 4. Activities include singing, sharing, playing and praying. Registration fees help cover the expense.
Arrangements for a funeral liturgy are made with the Pastor, who will assist the family so that scriptural and musical selections are expressive of the life of their loved one. St. Matthew’s also has a core of dedicated volunteers who provide a luncheon for the family and friends, allowing for a time and place for those who grieve to continue to celebrate the life of their loved one.
Meeting new people, developing relationships, and sharing food and adventures are the focus of this group for parishioners who are 55+ years old. The group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 11:30am for a pot-luck lunch and also goes on various outings throughout the year.
Quilters and Crafters
Sharing knitting, crocheting, quilting, embroidering and other needlework and crafting knowledge and skills, this group meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday morning of each month at 10:00am and concludes with a pot-luck lunch.
Soup Kitchen Ministry
This is a two-part ministry. One group of volunteers picks up perishables and other foods that are being discarded from local grocery stores and delivers them to either Holy Family Catholic Worker House or St. James Place. These are still edible, but past the date that the grocer can sell them. The second part of this ministry is a group of volunteers who work the St. James Soup Kitchen on the second Monday and fifth Thursday of the month. Setting up, serving, and cleaning up after the meal is part of this service ministry.
The finance council assists the pastor in matters concerning finances, stewardship of resources, and the support and upkeep of the physical facilities and properties of the parish. Finance council meets bimonthly on the second Wednesday of the month at 6 pm.
The varieties of flowers that adorn our gardens are maintained by dedicated volunteers. To offer your “green thumb” to this endeavor, contact the parish office.
